Location: Barnstorf, Germany
Dates: 30. September - 8.October 2012
Promoter: SCI Germany
Financed by: European Commission, Youth in Action Programme, action 3.1
Participants: 18 (Germany, Italy, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Georgia)
Trainers: Julia Myasyshcheva (Ukraine), Mauro Carta
Who has not encountered difficulties, met with seemingly unsurmountable obstacles and sometimes even experienced deep frustrations when trying to prepare and implement volunteer projects of whatever kind? There are so many things that need to be taken into account – and there are so many things that can (and sometimes do) go wrong – that can completely discourage a volunteer from continuing to sacrifice their time and effort for an organisation. Quite often these problems and failures are caused by a lack of vision, planning, effective teamwork or communication. Sometimes they are the result of external factors that we forgot to take into account.
It is interesting to notice that, while there are plenty of "Best Practices" seminars, the "Worst Practices" seem to be neglected or forgotten. So why not focusing our learning process on what can go wrong, in order to improve our management skills? During this seminar (which, as a matter of fact, was designed as a real training course) we shared our negative experiences and mistakes related to different areas: communication and working styles, networking and partnership, group dynamics, project management. During the last part of the event, participants had the chance to develop their own projects (sharing, this time, best practices!).
