S.C.I. Incoming Programme
Location: Cologne, Germany
Dates: September 2006
Participants: 7 (Zambia, Tanzania, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Germany)
Promoted by: SCI International, SCI Germany
Partner: Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium, Hürth
Trainers: Doreen Vorndran (Germany), Mauro Carta
The S.C.I. Incoming Programme is a joint initiative that allows volunteers coming from Asia, Middle East, Africa and Latin America to participate to international projects in Europe. The administrative and travel costs are shared by the branches willing to host the volunteers in their workcamps. This is the first phase of the programme. In the second phase participants gather together to take part to common training courses and they work together to develop a specific theme. I had the chance to coordinate the second phase of the Incoming Programme 2006 in Cologne, Germany. The project was really challenging: the group's task was to prepare workshops about colonial legacy and global responsibility targeted to high school students. Together with another trainer, we designed the various activities focused both on the African and Asian historical background and on presentation skills. The final result was a success: the participants shared not only their knowledge and enthusiasm with the German students, but also their music and food!
